Using ROOT for Genomics Data Analysis
Development of a proof-of-concept for the adoption of the ROOT framework as a potential shared platform for the management and analysis of big genomics data. The genomics community typically uses the R Project for Statistical Computing to analyse data. The large shared library available with R has allowed the community to easily develop methods for statistical genetics. However, the R environment has limitations and is not designed to handle natively large quantities of data. Conversely the ROOT framework has been designed to handle very large quantities of data, but its design is not modular enough to allow flexible deployment of customized frameworks. The project proposes to get the best of both worlds. See more about the technology here and this project here.
