CERN provides a limited amount of seed funding for projects using technologies with potential applications in the medical field through the Medical Applications (MA) budget. CERN personnel working on such projects can apply for resources, including the purchase of materials and the funding of researchers.

Just like the KT Fund, the MA budget highlights CERN’s commitment to maximising the societal impact of its fundamental research.

The procedure is very similar to that of the KT Fund. However, before submitting a proposal to the selection committee, a short presentation needs to be made to the MAPF (Medical Applications Project Forum) to assess the potential of the project and ensure it aligns with CERN's strategy for medical applications. The forum is composed of CERN experts in medical applications (appointed by the Heads of Department) and is chaired by the Medical Applications advisor.

Please note, there will be no funding round in 2026.
